3 Races Today

July 21, 2010 3:58 pm

Spectator FleetAll of our divisions have started their 3rd race.  We’ve still got great weather that held right in there.  Blue fleet was the only fleet not to start under Z-flag.  Once these races are complete all fleets will be heading back to shore.

Two races underway

July 21, 2010 2:41 pm

Race 1 StartWe’ve now started two races for all groups on the championship course. Our wind is holding steady around 260 at 6-10 knots. Check out this time lapse of the 2nd start for the gold fleet.

On the second race the blue fleet was the only fleet to start under P flag. The tide helped push sailors over early on the first try for the other 3 groups which were recalled. All 3 other groups successfully started on their second try which was under Zulu flag.

Keep an eye on the live sailgroove coverage to watch all of the action as it happens on the race course.

In the first race of the day our 4 race winners were Nic Muller, Ivan Shestopalov, Duncan Williford, and Ian MacDiarmid. For those unfamiliar to large fleet Optimist sailing – we separate the sailors into 4 flights and each flight starts separately. So each race as 4 firsts, 4 seconds, and so on. Tomorrow the sailors will be re-seeded and re-grouped based on their standings today.

Provisional Results with race 1 are posted here.

Green Fleet

After an instructional session with Tom Coleman on shore, the Green Fleet has come out to their own race course.
