The Welcome Program has just been published and a hard copy will be included in the registration packet for each sailor. The Program contains vital information regarding the logistics of the site. Please peruse it carefully before you leave home or en route as it will substantially facilitate a smooth arrival. Additional copies will also be available for purchase at the regatta tent. The program features information about Fishing Bay Yacht Club and the regatta including the schedule, a site map, as well as advertisements from many of the Sponsors and Local Hosts who have made this event possible.

Ramp Construction

Ramp 3 of the Opti Nationals launch site at Deltaville Boatyard is almost complete, thanks to the efforts of Ric Bauer, site manager, and a large crew of able volunteers. This is the third of three temporary ramps built specifically for this event at substantial cost and effort. We should all be grateful to Deltaville Boatyard and its slip holders for allowing these projects to proceed. Twelve more days to liftoff!

Reasons To Register Now!

First, you want to avoid Late Fees and Very Late Fees! The Late Fee for Open Nationals is imposed at midnight on June 20. The Late fee for Team Racing and Girls Nationals is imposed after June 30. These fees, and the Very Late Fees, are set forth in the respective NORs.

Second, you want to get discounts on apparel. An early purchase discount for all items in the Opti Nationals Shop was offered until June 15. That discount is hereby extended until midnight June 20, 2010, consistent with the Late Fee imposition at that time.

Third, the USODA Platinum Sponsor, Layline, has offered a 10% discount off anything but sails, boats and electronics for anyone who buys anything from Layline, if they register before midnight June 20, 2010.

Unique Awards Revealed For Nationals

USODA Layline Nationals will present unique awards to prize winners. These will be premiere quality award flags made by Prestige Flag Company of San Diego, the same nautical flag supplier making the memento flags published earlier. The flags will be 12 x 18 inch pennants of fine 600 denier polyester fabric, in special colors symbolic of events, award divisions, fleets, gender and finish, printed “read right” on both sides and sewn with hems, and flag borders with brass grommets. Regatta Memento Flag Revealed

USODA requires the host club to provide each registrant with a memento (such as a hat, tee-shirt, visor, etc.) We wanted to do something unique. In addition, we wanted to recognize the extraordinary Deltaville and Middlesex County business and residents’ contributions to the event.

We worked with Prestige Flag Company in San Diego, a leading nautical flag manufacturer, to design a special memento flag featuring the event logo, our host club burgee, the Platinum Level USODA Partner LAYLINE, and all the “Local Host” level sponsors, without whose contributions, in kind and in funding, we could not have put on this event. The Flag is digitally printed on fine 600 denier, polyester flag fabric with a sewn-on white back, border and brass grommets. It is 12 inches by 18 inches. We are very pleased with the result and hope you will be too.

Other printed and embroidered souvenir garments, including tee-shirts and hats, are available in the online regatta shop, and will be available at the regatta site. To facilitate inventory management and to assure availability of your size and color, we encourage you to order now and receive delivery in your check-in package. All these items are discounted until June 15.

The Opti Nationals 2010 Regatta Store is now open, offering apparel and accessories with embroidered or printed event logos. All items are substantially discounted until June 15 to facilitate management of regatta inventory. Purchase now to assure color and size availability and to obtain convenient delivery in your regatta bag at check-in.

Products available include male, female and youth pique mesh and pigment dyed Polos, adult and youth Caps, all cotton Tee Shirts (Tee Shirts are not included in registration fee; rather, a very nice surprise memento of another type will be provided), canvas Totes and ladies Contemporary Bags, and recyclable Event Bags. Sales taxes included in prices.

Regatta Site Map

To familiarize our visitors to the Regatta Site for the 2010 USODA Optimist Nationals, we have created an annotated Google Map showing all the current facilities, from Opti Staging Yards and Regatta Tents to the Sailing Area. We will keep it up to date.

The map has all the scrolling and zooming features of any Google Map, plus colored areas showing particular facilities, routes and areas. Click on each item for a pop-up description or use the legend to identify certain facilities. Zoom in and out using the plus and minus and scroll left and right. It is necessary to do both actions to view the entirety of the site in full detail. For the most functionality and the largest screen, click here.

For basic orientation, the site is on Stingray Point in the Middle Chesapeake, between the mouths of the Piankatank and Rappahannock Rivers. It is on Jackson Creek at the bottom of Stingray Point in the Piankatank mouth. You will note quickly, that the regatta site is NOT at Fishing Bay Yacht Club (marked by the club burgee), but is across the creek on its north bank on the incomparable properties of various other local hosts for the regatta. Enjoy the orientation and thanks to the local hosts who made this possible!

Construction Begins

Construction has begun for the US Optimist Nationals in 2010. Shown here is Opti Ramp #2 on the premises of Deltaville Boatyard, our generous Local Host for Opti Staging. This is the first of three ramps that will be constructed. A few more photos of ramp #2 can be seen here. In the first picture the sailing area is in the horizon. In the third you can see the FBYC docks on the creek side of the club campus between the two boats and across the creek. Soon we’ll be posting a satellite image of the entire regatta site including Opti Ramp #2.

Registration Bag Prototype

To make the Optimist Nationals of 2010 a unique experience, we will offer various items and apparel with the distinctive logo for the event. More will be available on apparel availability soon in the Shop pages of this website. In the meantime, see the current prototype of the complementary Registration Bags we will use to package registrants’ regatta information and shop purchases. These sturdy, convenient and recyclable bags, supplied by Earth Savvy Products,LLC, will also be available for purchase at the Event.

2010 Optimist Nationals Logo

The logo for the 2010 Optimist Nationals has been unveiled. The distinctive logo features a “Deltaville Deadrise”, the classic watermen’s boat of the middle Chesapeake, flying the “L” Flag signifying “Follow me,” the FBYC Burgee, and the Optimist Class symbol.

The logo has been added to our website and will be available on hats, polos and other apparel for sale on our online shop soon and at the regatta site. A variation of the logo will be available for purchase on printed T-shirts in adult and youth sizes.

A separate and unique regatta memento, other than the typical hat or tee-shirt, will be provided for each competitor. Watch this site for news on the memento.
