USODA approves FBYC as host of the 2010 Optimist Nationals
Fishing Bay Yacht Club (FBYC) in Deltaville, Virginia, will host the 2010 USODA Nationals July 16-24, 2010. USODA notified FBYC Friday October 16th that their application and proposal had been accepted. Junior Division Commander Jay Buhl and Commodore Noel Clinard, the Co-Chairs of the Event, and David Lee, Local PRO Liaison, met with Rob Rowlands, USODA’s Executive Director, on November 1 in Deltaville to review the regatta site and go over USODA regatta requirements.
This hosting opportunity has been enthusiastically embraced by the Deltaville community, including the Deltaville Boatyard and Marina, Deltaville Community Association, The Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park, the Harbor House Community Association and Jackson Creek Harbour Condominium Association, which, together with host FBYC, will provide parts of the facilities for the event.
Deltaville Maritime Museum will be the site of most land based activities including: check-in, parking, main event tent, food offerings, sponsor facilities, FBYC Regatta Store, and other social opportunities. The nearby Deltaville Boatyard and Marina will be the storage, rigging and launching site for most of the sailors, with overflow launching space available at the Deltaville Maritime Museum. The Jackson Creek Condo Association will allow participants to cross from the Museum to the Boat Yard. Smaller support boats such as safety and coach boats will be launched at Harbor House and moored at the Maritime Museum docks. Local food service providers will be encouraged to participate in this eight day event.
Deltaville is located in Middlesex County, 75 miles east of Richmond, Virginia, on the Middle Chesapeake Bay, at the mouths of the Rappahannock and Piankatank Rivers. FBYC hosted the 2004 USODA Atlantic Coast Championship.
This is a great opportunity for USODA and its members, FBYC, the Deltaville community and Middlesex county!
